During 2004-2011 the Groundwork Education in Mathematics and Science (GEMS) project was a collaborative effort between the University of Louisville (U of L) and the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) that partnered:
Each Fellow was teamed with JCPS elementary or middle grades math or science teachers. Together they developed, planed, and implemented inquiry–based lessons using JCPS’s Content Standards. As the teams did so, each was supported by a UofL content faculty member and a pedagogy mentor who was either from the UofL College of Education or a JCPS curriculum specialist.
